It is a fantastically exciting game to watch and participate in and is widely believed to be the fastest land-based game played.
The Solihull Vixens Ice Hockey Club are one of the five founding members of the first Women’s Ice Hockey League formed in the UK (in 1984) and are the only one of those 6 teams still competing today! Now nearly 40 years old, the Vixens compete in the top flight of women’s hockey in England…the Women’s Elite League. The 6 teams in the elite league play each other twice home and away each season.
The season runs from September to early May. The other teams currently in the elite league are: Bristol Huskies, Guildford Lightning, Kingston Diamonds, Bracknell Queen Bees and Streatham Storm.
Until the 2019/2020 season, Solihull had never won the Elite league but when COVID cut the season short with 4/20 games left to play, Solihull were leading the league with no games in hand below them so they were recorded as league winners but never got the satisfaction of truly celebrating what felt like a hollow victory, however, this was galvanised fully in the 2021/2022 season when the game re-started (post pandemic) with an emphatic and undisputed league championship.
